Social media
We update our social media accounts regularly. These are on:
- mastodon: @cwmdumusic@toot.wales
- bluesky: @cwmdumusic.bsky.social
- threads.net: cwmdumusic
We have decided to delete our X/Twitter account. Thanks for your support over the years.
Social networks—Mastodon
If you are Music/Arts organization, particularly in Wales why not join us in a growing community via federated social medium Mastodon? This has no adverts and strong encouragment of practises which enhance accessibility (eg there’s a much better level of alt-text than on many other social media platforms). People often find the discourse there less confrontational, more accepting and fun than X.
Mastodon differs from many other social media platforms in that it isn’t controlled by a single company (which may change ownership under you). Instead it’s a federation of instances which can share content. Different instances may be aimed at supporting particular interests, but you can follow creators from any of them. In Wales we benefit from a great instance at toot.wales/tŵt.cymru.
How to join? There is an introduction here. If you want to use an app on your phone there are official (free) apps available, alongside a lively 3rd party ecosystem—check these out. For desktop computers try the site elk.zone.
There is also a general unofficial guide to mastodon at Fedi.Tips.
Bluesky
Bluesky has enjoyed a boost in recent months and also has the aim of decentralisation. The project was originally set up by the co-founder of Twitter—it has the ambience of that platform prior to its recent sale, which many prefer.
Threads
Threads.net social media environment is developed by Meta‐the owner of Facebook, and is linked with Instagram.
Handling multiple accounts
We post media to all three outlets mentioned above.
With the proliferation of social media platforms, it’s handy to use tools which allow writing posts once, and having them automatically posted to multiple outputs (taking into account their differences in use). We use an iOS app Croissant for this.
