Sunday, 27th October 3pm (doors open 2:30pm) - Jazz from Claire Roberts, Treske Quartet with Dave Cottle (keyboards).

Portrait of the artist with reflections from a window.

The afternoon will explore a blend of folk and jazz traditions, from French chanson to Bossa Nova and the American Songbook. Claire is a composer, vocalist and violinist, and collaborates with musicians from classical, folk and jazz spheres, drawing upon her diverse influences and melding styles together through improvised vocals, contemporary classical timbres and melody-driven compositions.

Claire is a Welsh-born artist and has performed at jazz festivals in both the UK and Europe. She has won many national awards, including the Welsh Music Guild’s Young Composer and a Royal Philharmonic Composition Prize, and has been broadcast on Radio 3 and Radio Wales. We’re delighted to bring her to Cwmdu!

Treske Quartet—Oli Baily & Mollie Wrafter (violins), Abigail Hammett (viola), Robert Wheatley (cello) is an emerging ensemble based in Manchester, UK. The Quartet was formed in 2017 for a chamber music course in North Yorkshire, and we still play an active role in delivering high quality chamber music in the area. Over the past two years the quartet has given recitals in the UK and abroad, notably the Rydale Festival, Llandeilo International Music Festival, Buxton Recital Series and the New Generation Festival. The Quartet’s members consist of Oliver Baily, Mollie Wrafter, Abigail Hammett and Robert Wheatley, all of whom studied at the Royal Northern College of Music. Collectively we have amassed a wealth of experience as soloists, orchestral and chamber musicians, and as freelancers we regularly appear with professional ensembles and orchestras across the British Isles.

Spectacularly experienced multi-instrumentalist Dave Cottle will be on keyboards–he has his own Big Band ‘The Power of Gower’ 18-piece powerhouse jazz ensemble and will be known to all on the Wales jazz scene.
